When you register and teach with Read Hero, you are trusting us with your personal information. AM Eterna Sdn Bhd (Read Hero) understands this is a significant responsibility and we work hard to protect your data and put you in control. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect from teachers, why we collect it, and how it is used, stored, and protected.

This Privacy Policy governs your engagement with Read Hero as a part-time teacher, including your use of the Read Hero teacher platform, Professional Teacher Kit, and all related services. By registering as a teacher, you agree to be bound by this Privacy Policy.

As Read Hero evolves, this Privacy Policy may be updated. Any revisions shall become effective upon posting at www.readhero.com.my. You are advised to review this policy regularly.

1. Personal Data

Read Hero values your privacy and is committed to protecting it in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA) of Malaysia. By registering as a teacher with Read Hero, you agree and consent to the collection and processing of your Personal Data as described herein.

“Personal Data” means information about you from which you are identifiable, including but not limited to your name, identity card number, telephone number, bank account details, email address, residential address, emergency contact details, and any other information you provide during the teacher registration process.

The provision of your Personal Data is voluntary. However, if you do not provide the required information, Read Hero may be unable to process your registration or engage you as a teacher.

2. Information We Collect

As part of the teacher registration and engagement process, we collect the following categories of information:

2.1 Personal & Contact Details
  • Full name
  • Identity card (IC) number or passport number
  • Date of birth and gender
  • Nationality and residential address
  • Email address and phone number
  • Emergency contact details (name, relationship, phone number)
2.2 Login Credentials
  • Email address used as login ID
  • Encrypted password
2.3 Bank Account Details
  • Bank account holder name
  • Bank account number
  • Bank name

Bank account details are collected solely for the purpose of processing teaching fees and other contractual remuneration.

2.4 Professional Teacher Kit & Material Acknowledgement
  • Details of teaching materials issued to you (material name, material code, access link status)
  • Acknowledgement records relating to the Read Hero Professional Teacher Kit (worth RM100) provided to part-time teachers

This information is collected to manage the issuance and return of reusable teaching materials, and to administer the Read Hero Loyalty Appreciation Programme eligibility.

2.5 Automatically Collected Information

When you access the Read Hero teacher platform, we may automatically collect certain technical information including your device type, IP address, operating system, browser type, and usage behaviour within the platform. This information is used to improve the platform and your teaching experience.

3. Purpose of Data Collection

We collect and process your personal data for the following purposes:

  • To process your teacher registration and create your platform account
  • To verify your identity and eligibility as a Read Hero teacher
  • To manage your part-time engagement and contractual relationship with Read Hero
  • To process teaching fees and other payments via your registered bank account
  • To issue, track, and manage the Professional Teacher Kit and teaching materials
  • To administer the Read Hero Loyalty Appreciation Programme
  • To communicate with you regarding your classes, schedules, SOPs, and updates
  • To enforce the Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) and other contractual obligations
  • To comply with applicable Malaysian laws and regulations
  • To contact your emergency contact in the event of an emergency

4. Legal Basis for Processing

We process your personal data based on the following legal grounds:

  • Contractual necessity — to fulfil our obligations under your teacher engagement agreement and NDA
  • Legal compliance — to comply with Malaysian laws including the Employment Act 1955 and PDPA 2010
  • Legitimate interests — to manage our teaching operations, protect confidential information, and administer the Professional Teacher Kit programme

5. Confidentiality of Read Hero Information

As a Read Hero teacher, you are bound by the Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) signed upon registration. You agree to keep strictly confidential all Disclosor Confidential Information including but not limited to:

  • Read Hero teaching materials, SOPs, training content, and teaching modules
  • Customer and student information
  • Business operations, processes, and methods
  • Any information disclosed by Read Hero during the course of your engagement

These confidentiality obligations remain in effect for 24 months following the termination of your engagement with Read Hero, in accordance with the Agreement Terms.

6. Data Sharing & Disclosure

Read Hero does not sell, trade, or rent your personal data to any third party. We may share your information only in the following circumstances:

  • With authorised Read Hero management and personnel who require access to perform their duties
  • With financial institutions for the purpose of processing teaching fee payments
  • With government authorities or law enforcement where required by Malaysian law, such as to comply with a subpoena or legal process
  • With third-party service providers engaged to support our operations (e.g., platform hosting, payroll), subject to confidentiality obligations
  • When necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Read Hero, its teachers, students, or the public

7. Professional Teacher Kit & Material Returns

Read Hero provides a Professional Teacher Kit worth RM100 to all part-time teachers as preparation before they begin teaching. This kit includes training, teaching materials, teacher references, SOPs and teaching modules, and teaching support from trainers and management.

Some teaching materials within the kit are reusable and remain the property of Read Hero throughout the teacher’s active period. Upon termination of engagement, all reusable materials must be returned to management in good condition.

Teachers who remain actively engaged for a minimum of 12 months, comply with SOPs, and return all reusable materials in good condition may be eligible for the Read Hero Loyalty Appreciation during the exit clearance process, subject to:

  • Minimum active teaching period of 12 months
  • Return of all reusable teaching materials in good condition
  • No pending classes or unresolved operational issues
  • Full compliance with Read Hero SOPs and exit clearance procedures

8. Data Retention

We will retain your personal data for as long as your engagement with Read Hero continues and for a period thereafter as required by law or for legitimate business purposes. Upon termination of your engagement, your personal data will be securely archived or deleted in accordance with our data retention policy and the obligations under your NDA.

9. Data Security

Read Hero adopts reasonable technical and organisational security measures to protect your personal data from unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These measures include:

  • Encrypted storage of passwords and sensitive personal data
  • Restricted access to personal data on a need-to-know basis
  • Regular review of our data handling and security practices

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and must not disclose them to any third party.

10. Your Rights Under PDPA

Under the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA) of Malaysia, you have the following rights:

  • Right to access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Right to correction — request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Right to withdraw consent — withdraw your consent to data processing at any time (note: this may affect your ability to continue as a Read Hero teacher)
  • Right to limit processing — request that we limit processing of your data in certain circumstances

11. Changes to This Policy

Read Hero reserves the right to update or amend this Privacy Policy at any time. Any changes will be communicated to you via email or through the Read Hero platform. Your continued engagement with Read Hero after such changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
